Citizen Aloni

Israel, 2008

Citizen Aloni tries to decode Shulamit Aloni: the woman who wrote the first civics book for schools; a teacher who went to law school in order "to teach law and order" in the newly born state of Israel; the first to perform civil marriage ceremonies in the early 70's, as part of her struggle for a civil society and her fight against religious coercion; the founder of the Israeli civil rights movement, whose aim is to battle women’s rights, minority rights and other ideas that will enable the creation of an "exemplary society". In 1992 Aloni was nominated to be the Minister of Education; it was the peak of her career – and the beginning of her downfall.
